RE: Mayors Challenge to End Vets Homelessness
The League of Municipalities is pleased to join with the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey to promote a new Federal initiative to address the large and growing problem of veterans’ homelessness.
“The Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness” is a way to solidify partnerships and secure commitments to end Veteran homelessness from mayors across the country. Specifically, the call to action asks mayors to make a commitment to ending Veteran homelessness in their towns in 2015. We ask you to visit the website, which has been set up by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), at http://portal.hud.gov/hudportal/HUD?src=/program_offices/comm_planning/veteran_information/mayors_challenge/mayors_and_staff
Once there, you can follow the “Steps to Get Started by Participating Leaders” to join Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian, Carteret Mayor Dan Reiman, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, Maplewood Mayor Victor DeLuca and Paterson Mayor Jose “Joey” Torres, who have already registered their participation in this initiative.
The site also includes resources that you can use in your municipality to advance efforts to address the scourge of veterans’ homelessness. No one who has served our country should ever go without a safe, stable place to call home.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
