Re: My Social Security/Father’s Day

Dear Mayor,

The League would like to pass on this message from the Social Security Administration regarding My Social Security, an online account for social security beneficiaries.

THIS FATHER’S DAY GIVE DAD “My Social SecurityAccount”
Happy Father’s Day

You can probably think of a number of times when you asked your dad for a little extra help. Now, with Father’s Day right around the corner, is the perfect time to offer a little extra help for Dad. People across the nation are helping their dads to set up a My Social Securityaccount. You can help your dad too — and it won’t cost you a dime.

At each stage of your life, my Social Securityis for you. Your personal online my Social Securityaccount is a valuable source of information beginning in your working years and continuing throughout the time you receive Social Security benefits.

At each stage of your life, my Social Security is for you. Your personal online my Social Securityaccount is a valuable source of information beginning in your working years and continuing throughout the time you receive Social Security benefits.

If you receive benefits or have Medicare, you can:
Use a my Social Securityonline account to:

If you do not receive benefits, you can:
Use a my Social Securityonline account to:

  • Get your Social Security Statement, to review:
  • Estimates of your retirement, disability, and survivors benefits;
  • Your earnings record; and
  • The estimated Social Security and Medicare taxes you’ve paid.
  • Get a benefit verification letter stating that:
  • You never received Social Security benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Medicare;

or you received benefits in the past, but do not currently receive them (The letter will include the
date your benefits stopped and how much you received that year.); or

  • You applied for benefits but haven’t received an answer yet.

How do I create a my Social Security Online account?
To create an account, you must provide some personal information about yourself and give us answers to some questions that only you are likely to know. Next, you create a username and password that you will use to access your online account. This process protects you and keeps your personal Social Security information private.

For more information, please go to www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.

Think of all the times you’ve asked Dad for some extra help. This Father’s Day, give your dad a little extra with a My Social Securityaccount.

Very Truly Yours,

William G. Dressel, Jr.
Executive Director
