JUNE 18, 2014:  ATLANTIC/CAPE MAY GREEN TEAM NETWORKING EVENT 6:00-8:00 PM – Obadiah’s, 301 Roosevelt Boulevard, Marmora, NJ – REGISTER
Join us for a "Green" happy hour that will gather together sustainability minded individuals from across the area to share ideas and collaborate towards a better future.  Hear from others about what has worked in their towns, and connect with other leaders and available resources from your area. All are welcome -- you do not need to be an Atlantic or Cape May County resident or Green Team member to participate. (FREE event, light appetizers, cash bar)

JUNE 26, 2014:  Getting to Resiliency (WEBINAR) (10:00 AM – 11:30 AM) -- REGISTER
Please join Sustainable Jersey, the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve, and the NJDEP Coastal Planning and Land Use Division to learn what coastal municipalities in New Jersey can do to become more resilient, prepare for coastal flooding events, and earn points toward Sustainable Jersey Certification. The webinar will include the following:

  • Getting to Resilience, a community self-evaluation tool related to climate change and preparedness
  • Case Study: Little Egg Harbor Township’s experience in Getting to Resilience
  • Climate Adaptation Flood Risks, a Sustainable Jersey action
  • DEP’s coastal program and municipal resources
  • NJ Resiliency Network, a program offering resources to NJ municipalities for recovery and resilience

JULY 16, 2014:  Support Local Businesses (WEBINAR)  (1:00-2:00 PM) -- REGISTER
By supporting local businesses, municipalities can help grow a diverse local economy, stabilize their tax base, and create a strong and vibrant business community. The “Support Local Businesses” action is part of a suite of “Local Economies” actions in Sustainable Jersey.  This action identifies opportunities for the municipal government to strengthen and promote local businesses and to expand the amount of goods and services purchased from locally owned businesses.

Hear about the Support Local Businesses action in Sustainable Jersey and learn more about the Tax Reward Program which is being implemented by Marlboro as well as other Sustainable Jersey towns. Also learn about Princeton’s new debit card program (One Princeton) which enables users to designate a percentage of the monies spent to non-profits, as well as other municipal efforts to promote buying local.

July 23, 2014:  Maximizing Your Waste Management Actions (WEBINAR) -- (1:00-2:00 PM) -- REGISTER
This webinar will provide an overview of the waste management actions, and help municipalities understand how they fit together.  Learn how recycling non-mandated materials such as Bulky Rigid Plastics, Carpet and Foam, Shrink Wrap etc. can improve your municipality’s recycling efforts and earn points in Sustainable Jersey.  Find out how municipalities can get points for working with counties to do recycling of non-mandated materials.
