Re: Energy Grant Opportunities

Dear Mayor:

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy has announced open funding opportunities available to local governments.  Click here to view their announcement.

The following open solicitations are available increase the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies:

  • Biological and Chemical Upgrading for Advanced Biofuels and Products: Funding for the development, improvement and demonstration of integrated biological or chemical upgrading technology for the production of substitutes for petroleum‐based feedstocks, products and fuels.  Awards will range from $1million to $3.5 million. 
    Concept papers due May 1, 2014.  Full applications due June 13, 2014.

  • $15 Million to Help Communities Boost Solar Deployment: Funding to help communities develop multi-year solar plans to install affordable solar electricity for homes and businesses. News release.
    Concept papers due May 28, 2014.  Full applications due July 3, 2014.

  • Energy Department Announces $4.4 Million to Support Hydropower: Funding to support the application of advanced materials and manufacturing techniques in developing next-generation hydropower technologies.
    Concept papers due May 9, 2014.  Full applications due June 24, 2014.

  • Technology Incubator for Wind Energy Innovations: Funding for the research and development of investments in technology approaches and solutions that are not currently represented in the Wind Program’s existing project portfolio. This funding opportunity encompasses applications for any and all ideas that have a significant potential to advance the mission of the Wind Program. 
    Concept papers due April 28, 2014.  Full applications due May 30, 2014.

  • Marine and Hydrokinetic Research and Development University Consortium: Funding to advance MHK technology in the U.S. in the following strategic opportunity areas: Device and/or array operation and maintenance logistics development; High-fidelity resource characterization and/or modeling technique development and validation; Distributed application device development and techno-economic studies; Array-specific component technology development; Array performance testing and evaluation; Novel cost-effective environmental monitoring techniques and instrumentation testing and evaluation. 
    Full applications due May 30, 2014.

  • Wind Forecasting Improvement Project in Complex Terrain: Funding to improve the physical understanding of atmospheric processes which directly impact the wind industry forecasts and incorporate the new understanding into the foundational weather forecasting models.  One award of $2.5 million will be made. 
    Concept papers due May 5, 2014.  Full applications due June 5, 2014.

  • Competitive Marine and Hydrokinetic (MHK) Demonstrations at the Navy's Wave Energy Test Site (WETS): Funding to support test prototypes designed to generate renewable electricity from ocean waves. News release.
    Full applications due June, 11 2014.

  • Zero Emission Cargo Transport Demonstration: Goals for awards resulting from this funding include demonstrating reductions of petroleum use, greenhouse gas emissions and criteria pollutant and toxics emissions.  Other goals include evaluating the market viability of cargo ETT and collecting detailed information to analyze the benefits and viability of this freight transportation approach for this and other nonattainment areas. 
    Full applications due June, 11 2014.
