Re: Flood Insurance Affordability Advances
Last night in Washington, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 3370, the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2014. For details on the bill, see yesterday’s Washington Watch letter at http://www.njslom.org/letters/2014-0304-Municipal-Issues.html.
With a two-thirds vote (287) needed to pass the bill under expedited procedures, the final tally was 306, in favor, 91 opposed, with 33 not voting. We want to thank Congressmen Frelinghuysen, Holt, Lance, LoBiondo, Pallone, Pascrell, Payne, Runyan, Sires and Smith for their support.
The bill now advances to the Senate, which had already passed a slightly different version of the bill. We understand that the Senate may take action on the House bill and, thereby, avoid any delays that might occur in the Conference Committee process.
We will keep you posted of any further developments. Thanks to all of you who contacted your Congressman on this. Please contact Senators Menendez and Booker. Thank them for their past support for Flood Insurance reform, and ask them to continue to advance the interests of the many New Jerseyans in need of rate relief.
If you have any questions, please contact Jon Moran at 609-695-3481, ext. 121.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
