Property Tax History Pamphlet Revised and Updated
When we first published “A Short History of the New Jersey Property Tax & the Long Road to Reform,” we hoped to provide some needed background on our State’s unbalanced over-reliance on regressive property taxes and a brief review of recent reform efforts. It was meant to be a tool that local officials could use to educate citizens on the issue. We were gratified by the response.
But a lot has happened over the past five years and the time had come, we believed, to update and revise the publication. It has been posted on our website at http://www.njslom.org/property-tax-history/Tax-History.pdf. In addition to revisions, two new sections have been added to cover the 2010 “Toolkit” of substantive management reforms and the work of the League’s own Task Force.
We intend to have printed copies available at the Conference. For now, please feel free to link your municipal website to the publication and to download, if you so desire. We hope you find this useful and we welcome your feedback.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
