Re:  Legislative Alert
   I. State Comptroller Report on Local Government Legal Fees
II. S-2114/A-3317, Prohibits Municipal Registration of Multi-Family Dwellings

Dear Mayor:

The League would like to bring the following two issues to your attention:

I.   State Comptroller Report on Local Government Legal Fees
The League would like to make you aware of a recent New Jersey State Comptroller report regarding local government legal fees. This report can be found at http://nj.gov/comptroller/news/docs/press_local_government_legal_fees.pdf . This report is a result of an audit of three municipalities and two school districts. We urge you to contact your municipal attorney to discuss this report. The League is in the process of reviewing the report and will have a response shortly. If you have any questions, please contact our Staff Attorney, Ed Purcell Esq. at epurcell@njslom.com or at (609) 695-3481 x 137.

II.  S-2114/A-3317, Prohibits Municipal Registration of Multi-Family Dwellings
The League opposes S-2114 and its companion legislation A-3317, which will preempt any municipal ordinance requiring registration for multi-family dwellings, defined by statute as 3 or more units.    S-2114 is scheduled for a vote before the full Senate on Thursday, June 27.

We suggest contacting your State Senator to express your opposition to this bill.  For more, please see the League’s Dear mayor letter of June 11 (http://www.njslom.org/letters/2013-0611-S2114-A3317.html)

Very Truly Yours,

William G. Dressel, Jr.
Executive Director
