RE: Special Election Costs
Given the fiscal constraints municipalities have been facing for several years, we are concerned about any unanticipated expenditures due to the upcoming special primary election scheduled for August 13 and the special election scheduled for October 16. The Officers and Executive Board of the League of Municipalities therefore instructed the Executive Director to write to the Governor, requesting additional information regarding State reimbursement of these extraordinary municipal costs.
It was important, we felt, to make the Administration immediately aware of our concerns. A copy of that June 7 letter is linked below:
http://www.njslom.org/letters/2013-0625-special-election.html To date, there has been no response.
Now that the State budget negotiations are over, we hope that the Division of Local Government Services and the Division of Elections will address our questions and provide guidance on special election cost accounting and reimbursement procedures. We will continue to monitor this process and keep you posted on any developments.
Very truly yours,
Janice S. Mironov, President,
New Jersey State League of Municipalities and
Mayor, East Windsor Township
