Re: Bureau of Municipal Information and Legal Services
As we continue to recover from storms both natural and economic, and as municipalities do more with less, I wanted to remind you of several offerings of the League that may be of assistance to municipalities.
Our Bureau of Municipal Information offering assistance and information in several different important areas. You can visit the homepage for the Bureau here. Here are just a few of the many offerings through the Bureau:
One of the most effective ways to provide services is to leverage the economic advantages found in interlocal service agreements. Our Interlocal Service Center helps your municipality forge stronger and more cost effective interlocal agreements. You can visit the Interlocal Service Center here.
Our Grant Resource Center is the most comprehensive information source for obtaining grants in almost every area important to municipal government. We update it monthly with new information and resources. Our Grant Resource Center is located here.
The Administrator or Manager Recruitment and Selection Advisory Service is joint service offered in cooperation with the New Jersey Municipal Management Association (NJMMA). The Advisory Service has three components: an overview prepared by the Executive Director of NJMMA on the recruitment process; reference materials included on our website; and the availability of a retired municipal Administrator or Manager to meet with elected officials to discuss the overall recruitment process and answer questions that local officials may have about the best practices to be followed. More information about our Recruitment Advisory Service is located here.
Our Staff Attorney, Matthew Weng, maintains our ordinance library. Why reinvent the wheel? You can contact Matthew to obtain copies of ordinances adopted by municipalities, which you can use as a guide in drafting your own. You can contact Matthew at 609-695-3481 ext 137 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Matthew also offers a legal consultation service. Our consultation service provides municipal officials with legal knowledge and analysis to accompany the information and data that it has long made available. If you have a legal issue, whether it concerns a conflict of interest question, the interpretation of a statute or regulation, or another municipal law subject, and you want an informal consultation with an attorney knowledgeable in municipal law, contact Matthew at the at ext. 137, or at email@example.com. *Please note that the intent of this service is to provide a helpful consultation and not legal advice.
If you have any questions about these offerings, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
