RE: BPU Hosts Meeting on Storm Response Report Comment Period Ends Tomorrow
Yesterday, in response to a request made by the League’s Emergency Management Committee and League President, Mayor Art Ondish, Board of Public Utilities’ President Robert M. Hanna hosted a meeting, which included top executives from New Jersey’s major electric utilities. Yesterday’s meeting gave Mayors and other municipal officials the opportunity to direct questions and comments regarding last Fall’s major weather events to President Hanna and the incumbent utilities. On behalf of President Ondish, Committee Chair, Mayor Tim McDonough of Hope, and Vice Chair, Mayor Frank Sapienza of Verona, we thank President Hanna, his staff and the representatives of the utilities for their willingness to engage in this exercise.
||BPU President Hanna, along with League and Utility representatives, discuss the BPU report on utilities response to emergencies with the League’s Emergency Preparedness Committee.
As indicated in our September 5 letter http://www.njslom.org/letters/2012-0905-BPU.html, the Board of Public Utilities (BPU or the Board) had released the 250+ page Final Report, which reviewed the performance of New Jersey’s Electric Distribution Companies (EDCs) before, during and after last year’s major storms. You can access it at: http://www.nj.gov/bpu/pdf/announcements/2012/stormreport2011.pdf
The BPU has invited the public to provide written comments on what actions and/or measures the Board should take to ensure that the EDCs are as prepared and responsive as possible should future weather events of this same magnitude occur.
Comments will be accepted through TOMORROW, September 20, 2012, and may be sent via email in Word or PDF format to email@example.com with the text – “Comment on EDC storm prep and response EO11090543” – in the subject line.
Comments may also be sent by overnight mail to:
Kristi Izzo, Secretary
Board of Public Utilities
P.O. Box 350
Trenton, NJ 08625-0350
Please reference the same subject line text as above.
Again, we thank President Hanna, his staff and the leaders of the utilities for their willingness to work to correct the problems and deficiencies that emerged last year, so that New Jersey is better prepared for future weather emergencies.
