Re: League Professional Development Seminar

Broadband and its Role in Our Communities: Preparing for a Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network”
October 23, 2012
The Robert Meyner Reception Center at PNC Arts Center
Holmdel, NJ
9:00 AM – 12:30PM

Communities must take into account the vital role that broadband plays in our daily lives.  Increasingly, a community’s economic and civic vitality depends on its access to high-speed, reliable, and affordable broadband services. A nationwide public safety wireless broadband network is on the way, and along with it come many challenges that local governments will have to face.  Who’s going to built it and where’s the money coming from?  Will we finally solve the problem of interoperability?  How will new technologies change the game?  And what about Next Generation 911 services like text, photos, and data?

This first part of this session will look at the business, technology, regulatory, and political factors affecting the availability of these services, with a look at emerging technologies and delivery models.  Our panel of experts will discuss how the provision of these services can improve the financial, social, and educational well-being of our communities and residents. The second part of this session will tell you everything you need to know about the new network and what local governments must do to prepare for it.
