Re: Invitation to Join Mayors’ Wellness Campaign
The Olympics have begun and we are all inspired by the amazing physical feats performed by these great athletes from all across the United States and throughout the world. I hope you are also inspired to lead your citizens to better health and wellness.
I am attaching an op-ed written by New Jersey’s own former 4-time Olympian, Joetta Clark Diggs http://www.njslom.org/mayors-wellness/wellness-olympics080112.pdf Mrs. Clark-Diggs is spokesperson for the Mayors’ Wellness Campaign, an initiative of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute (www.njhcqi.org) in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities (www.njslom.org).
The mission of the Mayors’ Wellness Campaign is to equip mayors and other key leaders with the tools to develop and implement active-living initiatives in their communities. By encouraging mayors to take a leadership role in supporting local opportunities for active, healthy lifestyles, the intent of the MWC is to improve health and reduce skyrocketing health care costs associated with inactivity and obesity.
Over 300 New Jersey mayors have already taken the MWC pledge. If you haven’t already done so, please take the time to join the Mayors’ Wellness Campaign today and let your citizens know that leading an active, healthy lifestyle is a priority in your community.
Joining is easy and free. Simply visit mayorswellnesscampaign.org and look for “Mayors, Sign the Mayors’ Wellness Campaign Pledge” under “What is the Mayors’ Wellness Campaign?” on the home page. You can also lend your official support to the MWC by passing a resolution or signing a proclamation.
The MWC believes mayors are champions of community health. We hope you will join us today in this effort to fight obesity and promote healthy living for all New Jersey residents.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel
