Re: BPU supports Sustainable Jersey Programs

Dear Mayor,

At the request of BPU President Hanna I am forwarding the text of a letter he has asked the League to forward to you.

Very truly yours,

William G. Dressel, Jr.
Executive Director

Dear Municipal Official:

Last year, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities’ Clean Energy Program™ provided energy efficiency incentives to nearly 500 New Jersey municipalities through the Direct Install program.  Since the launch of the Direct Install program, the incentives have exceeded over $30 million, resulting in aggregate energy savings of more than $102 million.  These savings directly benefit municipal taxpayers.

The Board of Public Utilities is working with SUSTAINBLE JERSEY® to engage municipalities in relaying their own Direct Install program success stories to their local business community.  Small businesses can take advantage of generous Direct Install incentives that may cover 70% of project costs for energy efficiency upgrades.  Municipalities that have participated in Direct Install can share their experience and actual energy savings data to demonstrate the cost effectiveness and the ease of program participation.  In doing so, municipalities will be eligible to earn points toward their Sustainable Jersey Community Certification.

Empowering businesses to cut energy usage and save money is a win-win situation for the municipality and the business.  Sustainable Jersey is hosting workshops to help municipalities learn how to turn their own Direct Install success stories into cost savings for their local businesses. These workshops will also cover information on the Home Performance with Energy Star Program and on the municipal financing program - Energy Savings Improvement Plan.

Tuesday 6/5  9:00 to 11:30 AM
Camden County College
Blackwood Campus
College Drive, Forum, Room 101
Blackwood, NJ 08012

For more information on future workshops to be scheduled, contact Winnie Fatton, Sustainable Jersey, fatton@tcnj.edu or 609-771-2855.

As a municipal leader, you are uniquely positioned to be a helpful resource for business owners to install energy-efficient technologies and save money on their energy bills. Please be a part of empowering your community’s businesses by spreading the word about Direct Install and the available incentives offered by the New Jersey Clean Energy Program™

Sincerely,

Robert M. Hanna President, Board of Public Utilities
