Re:  Support our Vets - Participate in this year’s Jeans for Troops Day

Dear Mayor:

League Board Member, Mayor Cory Booker of Newark, has asked us to share with you important information about an easy way to support returning veterans and homeless, unemployed, college-bound veterans, looking to tap into their GI Bill benefits.

On behalf of those heroic men and women who have put their lives on the line to protect our interests all around the globe, I want to join with Mayor Booker and GI Go Fund Executive Director Jack Fanous to encourage you to consider in participating in this year’s GI Go Jeans for Troops Day on May 24, 2012. Sponsored jointly by the G.I. Go Fund, which engages in statewide veterans assistance activities in addition to operating a veterans service office in Newark City Hall, and the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, this 3rd Annual "Jeans for Troops" Fundraising Drive can support the thousands of New Jersey veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Public and private employers that choose to participate will ask employees for a $5 dollar donation. In return, individuals can wear comfortable jeans to work, and more importantly, contribute to an organization that helps returning soldiers find jobs, go to college, find housing and get health care.

The G.I. Go Fund is a nonprofit charitable organization that provides transition assistance to all military veterans, with a focus on veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, by preparing veterans for the twenty- first century economy, securing educational and health benefits, and providing aid and assistance to low income and homeless veterans. Those interested in participating in the Jeans for Troops Fundraising Drive should contact Alex Manis at (973) 802-1614 or

You can access a flyer that can be used to promote this cause at our website at

Thank you for helping us to thank New Jersey’s service men and women.

Very truly yours,

Art Ondish                                                                              William G. Dressel, Jr.
