Re: Executive Order Extends 4th Quarter Property Tax Payment -
Late today Governor Christie issued Executive Order 113 which extends the deadline for 4th Quarter Property Tax payments to Friday, November 16 for those municipalities that do not hold an accelerated tax sale. Any governing body may adopt a resolution extending the grace period to a date no later than December 31, 2012. Municipalities looking to extend their grace periods beyond November 16, 2012, should consult with their respective counties and boards of education before doing so, as the Executive Order does not require those entities to delay the right to demand their respective tax payments.
The Executive Order prohibits any municipality, county or any other agency or political subdivision from enacting or enforcing any order, rule, regulation, ordinance or resolution that will or might in any way conflict with any of the provisions of the Executive Order or that will in any way interfere with or impede its achievement.
The Division of Local Government Services will be issuing a Local Finance Notice providing additional guidance.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
