Re:      Mentors needed for Tuesday’s Children

Dear Mayor:

Tuesday’s Children, a non-profit organization serving 9/11 family members, 9/11 first responders, and those affected by terrorism worldwide, is currently seeking adult mentors from the communities of Ocean, Mullica Hill, Middletown and Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, to serve as a positive role model for children who a lost a parent as a result of the tragic events of September 11th. 

In an expansion of the Tuesday’s Children mentoring program, mentor volunteers are also needed to partner with children of first responders who have passed away as a result of their work at Ground Zero. 

The Tuesday’s Children Mentoring Program pairs children ages 7-18 with adult  role models who can offer new opportunities, provide guidance, enhance coping skills and most of all have fun.  Mentoring candidates will be carefully screened and trained by mentoring experts and then matched with a child who lives within a 30-mile radius of their home or office.  Mentors must be 21 years of age and must commit to a minimum of one-year as a mentor.

The mentors participating in this program meet twice a month informally with their mentee and participate in a wide range of activities which may include playing sports, helping with homework, playing board games, participating in charity work, or just providing a shoulder to lean on.  Tuesday’s Children also offers quarterly group outings such as ice skating, museums, bowling, and picnics as well as tickets to various events like New York Mets games, New Jersey Nets games, Broadway shows, or the circus.
