Re: 2012 Summer Blood Drive Campaign
The New Jersey State League of Municipalities is pleased to invite you to take part in the New Jersey Workplace Blood Donor Coalition's 2012 Summer Blood Drive Campaign, because the need for blood doesn't take a vacation. As a Mayor, your support for blood donation can make a significant difference in ensuring that the state has sufficient blood during the summer months -- a time when blood is often in short supply.
For this campaign, the Coalition is asking employers in the state to hold a blood drive between Memorial Day and Labor Day. As a member of the Coalition, the NJSLOM encourages all Mayors to consider holding a blood drive in your community or to make a concerted effort to encourage your employees who are able to give blood to do so this summer.
The Coalition was founded in 2008 by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services and Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation with the goal of increasing blood donation in the State of New Jersey by increasing employer involvement in blood donation. While 5 percent of eligible donors nationally donate blood on a regular basis, in New Jersey, only 3.6 percent do so.
For tools, contacts and best practices you can use to promote your summer blood drive, visit the Coalition's website at www.njsave3lives.com.
You may also want to put a copy of this letter on your municipality’s website. If you have any questions please contact me.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
