Re: Invitation to Join the Mayors Committee on Life Sciences
It is hard to believe we have reached the two-year anniversary of the Mayors Committee on Life Sciences. The Committee was formed in 2010 as a partnership between the New Jersey State League of Municipalities and We Work for Health New Jersey, an organization that represents the biopharmaceutical industry in our state and advocates on it’s behalf.
As you know, the biopharmaceutical industry is critical to the overall economy in our state, and also has significant positive economic impact on the communities. From the local property taxes paid by the company, to the local commerce generated by its employees, to the philanthropic contributions made to a town’s civic and charitable organizations, municipalities derive many positive benefits from New Jersey’s life science industry. Please see the attached the Op-Ed penned by League President Art Ondish that recently ran in the Star Ledger, and illustrates some of these points.
On the other side, the opinions of Mayors carry a lot of weight with elected officials so our input on issues impacting the industry is extremely valuable. When we work together, it is truly a win-win. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to join the Mayors Committee. We have included a sign-up form (WORD / PDF) with this letter.
Our next event is going to be a Best Practices program, hosted by an industry company. We plan to include a tour of the host facility, as well as presentations and a panel discussion on how municipalities can attract, retain and support biopharmaceutical companies. We would like to get your input and preferences for time and location of this event. Please visit http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DGZHGZT and fill out the survey – it will take less than 5 minutes, but will greatly assist us in scheduling this and future events that will be convenient and worthwhile for you to attend.
The Mayors Committee will soon be launching a new page on the League’s website that will allow you to stay up to date on activities, events and issues. In the meantime, please contact Lucy Montgomery (State Coordinator for We Work for Health) at 215-766-7951 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or need additional information.
