||I. School Board Election Date Changes
II. Trip to Turkey
I. VAST MAJORITY OF SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS MOVED
As of noon, February 17, 468 school board elections have been moved to the November General Election date. (This year, that will be November 6.) That number includes those that were moved by resolution of the boards of education or the municipal governing bodies.
As indicated in our January 19 letter (http://www.njslom.org/letters/2012-0119-school-bd-elections.html), P.L. 2011, c. 202 established procedures for districts, municipalities, or voters to opt to move the annual school election to November. It also eliminated votes on school budgets for such districts, except for separate proposals to spend above cap.
According to the new law, four years must pass before election dates can be moved back to the Spring date.
The State Division of Local Government Services’ January 25 Local Finance Notice (LFN 2012-3, available at http://www.njslom.org/letters/2012-0119-school-bd-elections.html) provides guidance on the new law
