Re: S-3078, Blue Acres Funding for Flood prone properties

Dear Mayor:

The League of Municipalities supports S-3078, which would allow municipalities to use their open space trust funds for the purchase of flood-prone properties.

Specifically, S-3078 would allow municipal governments to establish open space trust funds for the purchase of such properties, commonly referred to as “Blue Acres” projects.   Any such funding must be voter-approved, and would prevent repetitive losses due to flooding.  

S-3078 was approved unanimously by the Senate Budget and Appropriations committee, and awaits a Senate floor vote.   To date, an Assembly companion has not been introduced.
