Re: Public Hearing on NJ Water Infrastructure - Wednesday, November 30, 2011
The New Jersey Clean Water Council and Water Supply Advisory Council will be holding a public hearing regarding a critical question in the management of wastewater and water supply infrastructure: how should we measure long-term success in utility asset management? The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Department of Environmental Protection, Public Hearing Room, 1st Floor, 401 East State Street, Trenton.
This hearing follows on 2010 recommendations by the Clean Water Council to the Departments of Environmental Protection and Community Affairs, and the Board of Public Utilities, regarding water asset management and maintenance (see http://www.state.nj.us/dep/cleanwatercouncil/hearing2010.htm)
The Council seeks input and reaction to the following questions regarding asset management for water supply and wastewater utilities:
What standards of performance should apply to asset management?
- Who should be responsible for compiling, releasing and publicizing assessments?
- How should we recognize and reward successful utilities for doing a good job?
- How should we facilitate improvements for utilities that are doing a poor job?
- How should NJ assure sufficient funding and budgeting for proper asset management?
- How do we convince the public to support these actions?
If you wish to testify, the Council will provide 5 minutes per oral presentation and strongly encourages the submittal of detailed written comments by email or CD, as well as paper, to augment your testimony. Written comments will be accepted until December 31, 2011, and can be sent to the New Jersey Clean Water Council, c/o NJDEP - Division of Water Quality, 401 East State Street, P.O.
