Re: Free blanket license agreements with ASCAP and with BMI
On behalf of its members and all local governments in the United States, the International Municipal Lawyers Association has negotiated simple, comprehensive and cost-effective blanket license agreements with ASCAP and with BMI. Together, these agreements provide local governments will licenses to use nearly 98% of all music commercially available in the United States.
Have you ever thought about the number of things your government uses music for? How about festivals, concerts, arts & craft fairs, parades, First Night and New Year's Celebrations, fireworks, carnivals, swimming pools, community center dances, aerobic classes-the list goes on and on. Until now, most communities had to negotiate licenses for each event or use.
Now ASCAP and BMI offer a simple, blanket license that will provide coverage for almost all non-dramatic performances presented on both government owned property and at functions and events hosted by the government. This annual copyright clearance, which is a requirement under U.S. copyright law, saves the local government the time and expense of securing permission directly from each copyright owner each time music is used by various public entities within the community, such as community centers, museums, and libraries or at special events.
You can find this agreement on our website at http://www.njslom.org/cat_municipal_topics.html. It is free to download and use.
Very truly yours,
