Re: Strengthening Municipal Immunity to Tort Claims
At the League’s conference last November, several resolutions were passed urging the legislature to strengthen the immunity of towns when it comes to lawsuits due to injuries related to weather and the condition of sidewalks, boardwalks, beaches, and other similar structures.
We are pleased to let you know Assemblyman John Burzichelli has introduced three separate bills to address our concerns, A-3430, A-3431, and A-3432
We consider these bills part of a package that will restore the proper level of protection to municipalities from conditions that are largely outside their control. Passage of these bills would have a beneficial statewide impact, driving down the costs of litigation and settlements.
Attached is a sample resolution (WORD or PDF) that we encourage your governing body to pass. If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact Staff Attorney Matthew Weng at 609-695-3481 ext 137 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
