URGENT ALERT: IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED
RE: Senate to Vote on Federal Budget Today - CDBG Funding At Stake
Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid has announced that the Senate will vote TODAY (Tuesday, March 8) on two alternatives to fund the federal government through the end of the current fiscal year.
There will be a vote on the House Continuing Resolution (HR 1) that would cut CDBG by 62.5 percent, as well as cut or eliminate many other municipal programs.
There will also be a vote on an alternative, developed by Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye, which would fully fund CDBG at the current level, and restore funding for key programs such as the Workforce Investment Act, water and transportation infrastructure, Head Start, the National Endowment for the Arts, and others.
Please contact Senators Lautenberg (at 202-224-3224) and Menendez (at 202-224-4744) and urge that they vote against HR 1, and vote for the Inouye substitute bill.
Thanks for your efforts on this.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
