Re: Resolution Urging the Elimination of 4% Cap
on Local Tax Levy with SAMPLE RESOLUTION
Dear Mayor:
On January 25th, the Assembly Budget Committee began work to address the State’s current revenue gap and the ongoing structural deficit. Assemblyman Greenwald, the committee chairman, invited a delegation of municipal officials to explain the impact of those problems and the current economic collapse on municipal budgets, property taxes and local services. (Please see our January 25, 2009 Dear Mayor Letter for more information on the hearing)
During their testimony, several local officials raised their concern of the negative impact the 4% tax levy cap has had on municipal budgets. Afterwards, we were contacted by numerous Mayors who requested that we urge the State to eliminate the 4% cap on the local tax levy.
We have prepared a sample resolution (WORD or PDF) for your consideration and request that you adopt the resolution and forward to your State Senator and Assemblymembers.
