LEAGUE IMMIGRATION TASK FORCE PLANS
OUTREACH TO MEMBERS AND OTHER GROUPS

February 16, 2007

The New Jersey League of Municipalities Task Force on Immigration plans to continue its study of the impact of undocumented immigrants on municipalities by reaching out to other groups as well as to its own members. The first meeting of this Task Force took place on January 26, 2007. On February 9, 2007, members of the Task Force discussed the issues involved with the New Jersey Public Advocate, Ronald Chen, and members of his staff.

The League plans to conduct a survey of its members to find out what problems concerning undocumented immigrants are of most concern to municipal officials statewide. The Task Force will then seek constructive ways of dealing with these issues.

The League Task Force is chaired by Michael Wilde, Mayor of Englewood.  Other members include Joe Bellina, Administrator of Freehold Borough, Kerry Higgins, Attorney, Freehold Borough, and Christopher Vaz, League Associate Counsel.
