GUN COURT PILOT PROGRAM

Establishes a two year “Gun Court Pilot Program” in the Superior Court in Essex and Mercer County.
PURPOSE OF PILOT PROGRAM: TO EXAMINE ALTERNATIVE PROCESSES TO MINIMIZE DELAYS AND PROVIDE FOR THE MOST APPROPRIATE ALLOCATION OF JUDICIAL RESOURCES.
- The Administrative Office of the Courts will administer the program and report to the Legislature after 12 months on the impact of the Pilot Program on the court’s calendar and workload.
- Judges with experience and knowledge in criminal procedures and sentencing should be assigned to deal exclusively with gun related criminal cases.
- Gun Court Pilot Program will provide information as to the feasibility of expanding this program on a statewide basis.
