Biography

Bill Dressel, is Executive Director and formerly Chief Lobbyist for the New Jersey State League of Municipalities.  He has held progressive staff positions with the League since 1974 and assumed the duties of Executive Director on July 1, 1995.

Bill manages the broad spectrum of programs and services for the New Jersey State League of Municipalities, which represents all of the State’s 566 municipalities and a membership of over 13,000 elected and appointed municipal officials.  The League headquarters are located at 222 West State Street in Trenton.  The League has an operating budget of nearly 3 million dollars and has a staff of 20.  The League publishes a monthly magazine, New Jersey Municipalities, conducts seminars and educational workshops on a wide range of subjects, publishes numerous survey documents, almanacs, and directories.  The League also has an Annual Conference each November in Atlantic City and attracts nearly 20,000 registrants.  The League Conference is the largest of its kind in the world.  Bill Dressel also supervises four full-time lobbyists who are highly regarded as being the “municipal voice” on both Federal and State Legislative matters.

In 1999, he received the John G. Stutz Award for 25 years of State League Service by the National League of Cities.  He served from 1999 – 2001 on the Executive Board of the National League of Cities.  On November 14, 2007 he received the Rutgers Award for public service to New Jersey for Excellence in promoting and supporting Municipal Government.  On September 27, 2008, he was presented with the Sarah P. Fiske Award by Preservation New Jersey, Inc. for efforts in preserving the Ferdinand W. Roebling Sr. Mansion in Trenton.   Bill serves as a member of numerous governmental and association boards such as the Board of Directors of the Community Development Institute: Center for Urban Policy Research, Rutgers; serves as a trustee of Downtown New Jersey Inc.; is on the Board of Directors of the Health Care Quality Institute, serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the “Friends of the State House” organization, and is a member of both the Family Readiness Council for the New Jersey National Guard; and the Employer Support of the Guard and National Reserve. 

He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Social Science from Elon College in North Carolina.  He also holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from West Virginia University.  Some of his leisure activities include jogging and working on various community projects.
