Assembly Transportation Committee Hearing on the Transportation Trust Fund

Thursday, November 20

9:00 a.m.

Hall A in the Atlantic City Convention Center

  • Did you know that in 7 months the Transportation Trust Fund will reach insolvency and will not have the capacity to pay for any transportation projects?
  • Did you know that experts estimate that the Transportation Trust Fund needs $20 billion over the next 10 years to maintain and improve the state’s roads, bridges and mass transit systems, provide local aid, as well as to begin critical projects?
  • Did you know that Mayors Robert Jackson of Montclair and Timothy McDonough of Hope, Chair of the League’s Transportation Trust Fund Review Committee, testified before the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee to prioritize New Jersey’s transportation funding, and to put our State’s economic future on solid footing?  As we see it, New Jersey faces three challenges, with regards to transportation capital funding. We must:

      1. Reauthorize the Transportation Trust Fund to ensure adequate and reliable funding to meet State and local transportation infrastructure funding needs for the next 10 years.
      2. Increase Local Aid funding to ensure adequate and reliable funding to meet all local transportation infrastructure needs.
      3. Increase the municipal share of Local Aid funding and ensure fair funding for all municipalities.

  • Did you know that the Local Aid component of the Trust Fund provides state and federal funds for special local projects to improve safety, for safe pedestrian and bike routes, for town centers, transit villages and other non-traditional transportation enhancements?
  • Did you know that Chairman of the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee, Assemblyman John Wisniewski and Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto are giving New Jersey Mayors the opportunity to participate in these crucial discussions at the League Conference?
  • Did you know that your testimony and support to increase Local Aid is critical?
