May 7, 2009
HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
In an effort to promote sustainability and public/private partnerships, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the New Jersey League of Municipalities Education Foundation, and the NJLM Mayors’ Committee for a Green Future (MCGF) have established the Sustainable Jersey™ Grants funded by Wal-Mart. The grants are intended to support New Jersey municipalities participating in the Sustainable Jersey Certification Program to institute greening and sustainability initiatives within their communities and better the quality of life for their residents. Wal-Mart has provided $200,000 to fund the grants program for New Jersey municipalities. The program will award ten (10) $10,000 grants and four (4) $25,000 grants.
GRANT APPLICATIONS ARE DUE ON MAY 7, 2009. The full application package may be downloaded from www.sustainablejersey.com on the Grants and Resources Page under “Small Grants Program.” Awards will be made in late June of 2009.
TO BE ELIGIBLE MUNICIPALITIES MUST FIRST REGISTER WITH SUSTAINABLE JERSEY.
To get started municipalities need to adopt a resolution that states your intent to participate, and designate a municipal representative as your coordinator and point of contact. Copies of the sample resolution and registration instructions can be found at: www.sustainablejersey.com on the “Register Your Municipality” page.
Sustainable Jersey is an initiative of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities’ Mayors’ Committee for a Green Future, the Municipal Land Use Center at the College of New Jersey, The New Jersey Sustainable State Institute at Rutgers University, the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, the Rutgers Center for Green Building, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, and a coalition of NJ non-profits, state agencies, and experts in the field.
